Hunting for the occasional piece of antique furniture

Everyone likes to put their stamp on their home and furnish it according to their own personal style. For some this might mean a modern minimalist look while for others they may want a homely, country cottage style or a retro 1960s practical, clean appearance.

It can be OK to mix and match styles.  You might love the look of antique furniture but not have the money to furnish your whole home in an antique style.  If this is the case, then look out for the occasional piece of antique furniture which will look good with your other pieces of furniture. With the rise in popularity of anything old and vintage, these days we are spoilt for choice in where to buy such furniture.  You may want an old leather 1930s club chair with studded seams or a couple of small, wooden, upright chairs with pretty covered seats which would not have looked out of place in a servant’s bedroom at the end of the nineteenth century. You can buy distressed shaker style wash stands or narrow cupboards which may look good in your bathroom.  You may be lucky enough to find an old toy box or blanket box which may be perfect for storing linen or children’s toys.

If you have a clear picture of what you are looking for then you may find fruitless searches will result in disappointment. Quite often, it’s a case of browsing amongst the bric a brac of a shop and then seeing something which you think would be perfect for the master bedroom or the dining room. So let your feet do the walking and your eyes wander and you never know what you may find.
